“Going once, going twice, and sold!”
On October 5th, 2024, DeLaSalle High School hosted the yearly Christian Brothers Gala with the theme "A Night in the French Quarter." The main purpose of the annual gala is to grow endowments for student scholarships. Decorated with balloons, umbrellas, and streamers, the event started in the main gym and the LL Gray Gym. In the LL Gray Gym, all the items available for silent auction were featured, many of which were the over 25 National Art Honor Society student submissions or donations from various academic departments. The top student art bid was a painting by Katie Boespflug (Class of 2025); she created a colorful Minneapolis skyline, which sold for $295. The science department donated a sourdough starter kit, and the English department contributed a $150 certificate to the Penumbra Theatre.
The event not only featured gorgeous art and generous donations but also was an elegant night to remember. There were a variety of hors d'oeuvres for the guests to enjoy, including sandwiches, salads, and other treats. A bar offered a wide range of drinks and syrups. Many VIP teachers and staff attended, along with numerous student volunteers.
The next event of the evening took place in the Florence Center, where the DeLaSalle music department led the guests in a festive parade. DeLaSalle students Luke Sitek (Class of 2025) and Lydia Victor (Class of 2025) were the student emcees. They began the program with several punny jokes, humoring the guests. When asked about their experience, Luke and Lydia both agreed that the gala was like no other; it was an amazing opportunity to connect with people who share similar experiences across different generations. They mentioned that they were nervous at first but felt calmed by the happiness and generosity of the gala attendees.
Next, the live auction began, featuring a trip to New Orleans and a meal at the Nicollet Island Inn. The atmosphere was exciting, filled with smiles on people's faces as they bid on amazing prizes. Guests were thrilled to contribute to support the students of the school they love and cherish. To finish off the night, the DeLaSalle Theatre Department performed two special and beautiful pieces: "Rivers" by Leon Bridges, with soloist Edric Duffy (Class of 2025), and "One Fine Day" by David Byrne, with soloist Eamonn Smith (Class of 2025). Each song carried a beautiful message. It was the perfect end to a glamorous and eventful night.
Until next year.
