The 4B Movement: Questions Answered


Introduction 


After the world-rattling results of the 2024 United States presidential election, left-winged women raced to the internet to support the viral 4B movement. These women were infuriated with the men who were complicit in the re-election of Donald Trump and continue to uphold misogynistic rhetoric. Yet, they have now found a way to advocate for themselves. However, as the 4B movement gains voice and momentum so come questions. 


What is the 4B movement?


Originating in South Korea, the 4B movement is a radical feminist movement that represents the rejection of a patriarchal society. The name “4B” represents  four Korean words that start with “bi,” meaning “no.” These four main words are bihon (no marriage), bichulsan (no childbirth), biyeonae (no dating), and bisekseu (no sex).  


How did 4B start?


This movement first surfaced from the escalation of gender inequality that governed South Korean society.  Influenced by South Korea’s long history of gender persecution against women, originating from Japan’s colonization, cases of discrimination and sexual harassment have grown significantly. What is 4B’s impact?


It is evident, now more than ever as women begin to take their rightful role in the global power sphere, that gender’s influence in politics is becoming ever more prominent.  Women understand they must combat this male-dominated society, even if it means denouncing the fundamental ideas of marriage, children, dating, and sex.
